From the article, emphasis is mine:

According to the report, Peterson parked her 2019 black Maserati Levante GranLusso SUV near the air machine facing Defoor Avenue. She left the SUV running while she got out and walked over to Mcfarland, the report said.

Allegedly there was a gun, but it doesn’t say anyone was forced out of or away from the car . I dunno, is it really “ victim blaming” to say this could have gone a completely different way if someone hadn’t walked away from a running Maserati SUV with the keys in it ?

This area has been a “slider” crime hot spot for months. It’s been well publicized, it’d be nice if you could leave your vehicle unlocked and running but that is not the reality at this point in time.

So yes a bit of victim blaming here, this part of town is safe if reasonable precautions are  observed. She doesn’t deserve it but she could have prevented it.

I have walked through that area many times. The last thing that would occur to me would be to leave (or even take) a running Maserati there.

I see people do this all the time, though they usually leave their car running and the stereo booming while they walk into the store. I have never understood that. Unless it’s a bragging thing, showing off the sound system.

I leave my vehicles run all the time around here. Then again if someone saw someone who wasn’t me get into my vehicle, they’d probably be beat down before they ever got in the driver’s seat.

Everyone knows everyone around here, we don’t even think about stuff like this.

L ike with nobody in the car?  Interesting - I just have not experienced that up here.  And no judgement - I leave my car unlocked all the time, just never keep anything of value in it.  Got tired of repairing busted out windows from carprowls...
